"Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy."
Psalm 82:3

By raising children in a Christ-centered environment, The Pines hopes to train them to be morally pure, which in turn will help them live through the AIDS pandemic and make a lasting impact in Africa. So many already have been lost to the AIDS pandemic and The Pines is stepping in to help keep these children from becoming a second lost generation.

OUR MISSION

at The Pines

While The Pines aims to provide a safe, loving home for children, our main goal is to raise the children with opportunities to understand and accept the love of God. The children attend a local church weekly, participate in a Wednesday night service at The Pines, the teenagers attend youth group, volunteers sometimes lead on site Bible studies, and some older children attend other Bible studies by choice. We also house young adults that have grown up at the Pines in flats called "Transition Flats". This provides them with a safe place to stay while they are transitioning to the next stage of life once they finish school. We are also able to continue ministering to them during this time of their lives. Some children, teens, and young adults at The Pines have accepted Christ as their Savior, and have made their faith in Christ public by being baptized. Continue to pray for these children and young adults to know God and to grow in their walk with Him.  Above all, The Pines wants God to be glorified in the work that is done.

KEEPING

The Pines doesn’t aim to “Americanize” the children.  We aim to provide an environment that is as similar to a typical family unit as possible. Each flat (or apartment) on the property holds a self-sufficient family with a South African Couple or House mother that provides care to each of the children. The caregivers converse with the children in their first language called Sesotho, and they cook traditional foods which helps the children maintain their culture.  They also teach important life skills, and may be first in line to answer children’s spiritual questions. There are currently seven Mama's that serve at the Pines, and as of early 2024, we also have South African married couple that serve as houseparents as well!

LOCATED in Welkom, South Africa

Due to the generosity of a local mining community in Welkom, we now have our 15-acre property that we use for the Pines! In 2005, Harmony Gold, a gold-mining company, donated the use of the property that The Pines is on today.
